Are you frustrated by food and body concerns that never seem to shift, no matter what diet or program you try?
Most of us are taught that nutrition is simply a matter of the food we put in our mouths, and that our body responds to what we eat in a straightforward manner, burning calories for energy and storing the excess as fat. We’re told we can get specific outcomes by adding specific nutrients, like calcium for strong bones, or protein for muscle building. If we don’t like something our body is doing, we should be able to correct it by adjusting our diet - and if we fail to see the results we want, we must be doing it wrong.
But the truth is, there is so much more to the story. Our metabolism and our nutritional needs depend to a very large degree on who we are as eaters, and that includes things like our personal and family history; our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs about food; our culture and values and life experiences; and even our hopes and dreams for the life we most want to lead.
At the Institute for the Psychology of Eating, we’ve pioneered the fields of Mind Body Eating and Dynamic Eating Psychology. Our founder, Marc David, has spent well over three decades gathering cutting-edge insights from researchers and practitioners in a wide range of health and wellness disciplines, and teaching people how to use this information to find true, lasting freedom from food, body, and health challenges. Now, we’ve collected the highlights from this enormous and revolutionary field of knowledge into one package, so you can dive into your own food story and finally experience the changes you’ve been longing for!

I’m the Founder and lead faculty member of the Institute for the Psychology of Eating. I live in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. I’m a teacher and consultant in Eating Psychology and the author of the classic, groundbreaking and bestselling books Nourishing Wisdom and The Slow Down Diet. For over three decades, I’ve been an innovator in eating psychology and nutrition. I earned my M.A. at Sonoma State University in Psychology and trained at the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine and SUNY Upstate Medical School.
I got into this work because as a young child I was profoundly unhealthy, and grew up with an unhappy relationship with food & body. This experience led me on a search for a cure, for a sense of wholeness … and to my extensive involvement in clinical nutrition, eating psychology, and different healing modalities.
I’ve held senior consulting positions at Canyon Ranch Resorts, the Johnson & Johnson Corporation, the Disney Company, and the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. I’ve also served on the editorial board of Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine.
My work has been featured on CNN and NBC, and in The New York Times, Chicago Times, McCall’s, Glamour, Elle, Yoga Journal, WebMD, and hundreds more publications. My books have been translated into over 10 languages. I’ve presented at a long list of professional settings, including Harvard University, the Institute for Functional Medicine, and The National Institute for the Clinical Application of Behavioral Medicine. And I’ve mentored many of the luminaries in the fields of nutrition and natural medicine.
I’ve logged thousands of hours working with people who have a full range of nutrition and eating challenges: weight concerns, body image struggles, overeating, binge eating, emotional eating, endless dieting, weight loss resistance, eating disorders, digestive issues, mood concerns, fatigue, immunity, you name it. I’ve originated two unique new approaches to nutritional healing – Dynamic Eating Psychology and Mind Body Nutrition – and I founded the Institute as a way to share these concepts and channel my passion into an effective, uplifting, results-driven approach to the ever-increasing number of eating challenges and nutrition-linked health concerns facing all of us.
Throughout all of this, I’ve been driven by one compelling question: How can we combine the best of nutritional science and eating psychology to serve people in a profound and truly effective way? My work with others is truly a mind, body, heart and soul approach... and I look forward to seeing how I can help you find the breakthroughs you're seeking.
"This is a whole new approach to eating and food issues using love, acceptance, learning how to evoke the relaxation response, and so much more. It has changed my entire relationship with food at this late stage of my life. This program has finally ended my preoccupation and obsession with food and dieting and even how I look. It has allowed me to be joyfully present in the moments of my life without the scrim of misery that always used to separate me from living. I am eating healthfully and without any restrictions whatsoever. My weight is normalizing and I feel such freedom from the pain I've lived with around these issues for most of my life. I highly recommend it to anyone who struggles with food, eating and body image issues. It will change your life."

"I took Marc's program because I have had digestive issues since 2013. I’ve tried so many things, but nothing has really helped until I realized that one of my problems was that I was really stressing about food. Food was my enemy. I was really confused. I didn’t know what to eat anymore. I am so glad that I took the program, not just because my relationship with food has changed, but because I have also changed… in so many ways. The program makes you rethink your life and guides you step by step to find your inner wisdom and claim your power back. I was going from doctor to doctor, from therapist to therapist, and was trying to be fixed; I felt broken. For me, the strongest revelation in the program was that “I am not broken… there is nothing to be fixed. I’m a perfect imperfect human learning on this planet.” I feel free from the limits I was putting on myself. My digestive issues have improved, I feel happier and I am not afraid of food anymore. I can choose better, and I can also listen to my body better. I loved to listen to Marc and be inspired. He was clear, direct and supportive. He gave you a lot of material, but at the same time he gave you the freedom to think for yourself and find your own truth. I would recommend this program to everybody, not only if someone has food issues. It is life-changing! Thank you very much!!"
"Marc's program has changed my life. Imagine finally being free. Free from your struggles with food and weight. Free to just live - to be the real you, to have love and joy in your life. So many of us want this, but feel we are not allowed to have it. Messages from our past, and from society, have taught us that we are not allowed to feel happy about ourselves until we are good enough - and we won't be good enough until we are skinny enough. Imagine finding out that not only is it okay to love and accept yourself right now as you are, it is necessary for finally achieving a sustainable transformation. Love, acceptance, and kindness towards self is Step 1, not the prize at the end. Imagine a philosophy that teaches how slowing down and relaxing into life, body, and your inner power is key. Doesn't that sound wonderful? Starving ourselves, bingeing and overeating, beating ourselves up, then starting all over again has not worked. So why not try this? You are worth it."
